The Lies We Tell cover The Natural Way of Things Cover

The Lies We Tell by Meg Carter

In the summer of 1989 there was a fire at Gallows Hill. Two school girls, Kat and Jude, managed to escape the blaze. Twenty-five years later, Katy (formerly Kat) is the woman who has it all: great job, attentive fiance, a house in the right neighbourhood and a baby on the way. But just when Katy thinks she’s finally going to get her happily ever after, Jude makes an unwelcome reappearance in her life and threatens to take away everything katy has worked for.

The Lies We Tell is a sinister story of deception, privilege and long-buried secrets.

The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood

The Natural Way of Things is brutal, violent, gothic. Wood’s prose is vivid, flecked with gore, and she draws on the sublime terror of the Australian outback to make her reader sweat and squirm as she pulls them into her increasingly primal, animal world to consider what happens when the roles of hunter and hunted are reversed and to confront that basest of questions: what am I?

An unsettling, harrowing and deeply compelling read.
