What is one of your favorite words? Why?

Moodle, which comes from one of my favourite quotes:

“So you see, imagination needs moodling, -long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering.”

It’s a fun word to say and one of my favourite things to do.

What is the third book on your bookshelf (from the left)?

Haha, which one? I’ll go with the one closest—my Classics bookcase—and the third title from the left is a Penguin Classics edition of Thomas de Quincey’s Confessions of an English Opium-Eater and Other Writings.

What was your favorite childhood series?

Tricky. I’m going to go with Enid Blyton’s ‘Famous Five’ novels. I’ve always love a good seaside adventure.

What book would you recommend to everyone to read?

The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It’s my absolute favourite book. The characters are awful people and all the key action takes place off page, and yet it is utterly compelling. Also, it’s a book you can read over and over and find something new each time; at first glance it appears to be a bog-standard thriller, but the closer you look, the more the more complex and intriguing it becomes.

If you could see any band in the world in concert, who would you see?

I’m actually not a big music fan. I’d probably go with Florence and the Machine or Max Richter.

Name your favorite bookstore to visit.

The Strand in New York. When I visited a few years ago I ended up having to ship several boxes of books home to Australia!

Name three book to movie (or miniseries) adaptations that you love.

• Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited and the 1981 BBC mini-series
• Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita and Adrian Lyne’s 1997 film adaptation
• Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca and Alfred Hitchcock’s 1940 film adaptation

If you could invite any author over for tea, who would you choose?

Nancy Mitford. Hands down.

Name one way in which the blogging community has changed your life.

I started Lectito after moving to Perth, Western Australia, in the middle of last year. I’d been living in Melbourne for four years before that and left behind a bunch of book-loving friends and a book club. I love talking books and didn’t want to give that up! Lectito became a way to keep talking about books and reading with other passionate bookworms.

If you could live anywhere, where would you live?

Oh gosh, there are so many places (and so many I want to see and haven’t yet explored)! I’m hoping to eventually move back to Adelaide. It’s where I grew up and studied and most of my family and friends are still there—it will always be home. But if I could live absolutely anywhere, it’d probably be a sparsely populated island with at least one good swimming beach.

What is your favorite book that falls into the genre of mystery/thriller?

The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. Ripley is such a fascinating character, you can’t help hoping that he’ll get away with his crimes and Highsmith is the queen of suspense.
